With the power user group gone in Windows 7, has the standard User now gotten the permissions that the Power User had? Aug 1, 1, 3 19, The Power Users group is maintained only for compatibility with legacy applications only. When I activate a font through the program I get prompted with the UAC and after entering the credentials I get a message saying that this operation needs elevated permissions.
However, when I place the user in the Power User's group, I enter the credentials and it lets me activate the font. Same goes with Java updates. Applications that require elevation when run on Windows 7 a standard user account cannot do, unlike downloading and installing firefox for example.

On XP it gave you ' a bunch of access ' and I don't think I know anywhere that its ever been used. I have to admit I haven't even given it a thought since Vista onwards. Checking secpol. Power Users also allows an account to create shares. I tested it by creating shares in a cluster with new-smbshare command where I only added the domain account to Power Users. Without being in Power Users, the domain account could not create the share.
Download Microsoft Edge More info. Contents Exit focus mode. Please rate your experience Yes No. Any additional feedback? Note You can use also the Secedit command-line tool to configure and analyze system security. Note The user who runs this command must have administrator rights for it to complete successfully.
If MachineName is omitted, the local machine is assumed. If DomainName is omitted, the local machine is searched for the account. Although the syntax example indicates a user name, this will work for user groups too.
